Behavioral Health Subcommittee Meeting Thursday, July 24

Santa Fe, NM – The Behavioral Health Subcommittee will meet on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in room AD101/102, of the Joseph Montoya Building at Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) in Española.

Among several agenda items, committee members will receive a report from State Auditor Hector Balderas on behavioral health, discuss the consequences of substance abuse in New Mexico with Dr. Michael Landen, State Epidemiologist for the Department of Health, and also discuss the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Pain Management Clinic with Brian Starr, the Medical Director of the UNM Pain Center, and Daniel Duhigg, the Director of  Addiction/Mental Health Services of the UNM Pain Center. A panel discussion on Rio Arriba County school-based behavioral health issues, and Rio Arriba County’s state of behavioral health and substance abuse impact in Northern New Mexico will also be on the agenda.

Committee Chair Representative Elizabeth “Liz” Thomson (D-24-Bernalillo) and Vice Chair Senator Benny Shendo, Jr. (D-22- Bernalillo, McKinley, Rio Arriba, San Juan & Sandoval) will preside at the meeting.
