Committee to Receive Update on Tierra Amarilla Land Grant at June 11 Meeting

Santa Fe, NM – The Legislative Land Grant Committee will be meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 in room 317 of the State Capitol in Santa Fe.

Committee members will review 2014 committee-endorsed legislation. Committee members will also receive a presentation by the State Auditor’s office on the recently completed audit of the Tierra Amarilla Land Grant. The investigation arose when land grant heirs learned that members of the land grant board executed a mineral rights lease to an oil company without sufficient public input or vetting. The 2014 interim work plan and meeting schedule are also on the agenda.

“I’m looking forward to chairing the upcoming meeting and discussing this critical time for reform and renewal of our state’s commitment to land grants,” said Committee Chair Senator Jacob Candelaria (D-26-Bernalillo).

Sen. Candelaria will chair the meeting. At 27, Sen. Candelaria becomes one of the youngest legislative committee chairs in the country.

Committee meetings are open to the public and are also webcasted live at: http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/webcast/default.aspx. Meeting agenda details can be accessed through the following link:http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/agendas/LGCageJun11.14.pdf.
