Indian Affairs Committee Meeting September 29, 30 and October 1

Santa Fe, NM – The Indian Affairs Committee will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday September 29-30 and October 1, 2014 at the Pueblo of Jemez, the Pueblo of Zia, and the Pueblo of Cochiti.

Among several agenda items, on Monday, committee members will discuss Native outreach, education and enrollment in the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and oral health access. On Tuesday, committee members will discuss the use of the Zia Sun symbol, appropriations and capital outlay in Indian Country, and take a tour of the Pueblo of Zia. Wednesday’s agenda includes discussions about tribal, state and federal fiscal challenges with fire protection, flood protection, mitigation and restoration management. Committee members will also discuss and take a tour of the Bridge at Sile.

Committee Co-Chairs Senator John Pinto (D-3- McKinley & San Juan) and Representative Sandra D. Jeff (D-5- McKinley & San Juan) will preside at the meeting.
