Land Grant Committee Meeting Thursday and Friday, October 23-24

Santa Fe, NM – The Land Grant Committee will meet on Thursday and Friday, on October 23-24, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Law in Albuquerque.

Commission members will receive updates on the Land Grant Council and Land Grant Consejo, and UNM’s Land Grant Studies Program. They will also discuss the potential transfer of the Land Grant Council’s administrative connection from the Department of Finance and Administration to UNM, traditional remedies and uses of native plants, building competence with New Mexico’s inherited Spanish and Mexican legal constructs within the state bar of New Mexico, considerations regarding traditional use access and balancing elk populations with grazing allotments, and land grant notice requirements within the surveying statute.

Committee Chair Senator Jacob R. Candelaria (D-26-Bernalillo) and Vice Chair Representative Miguel P. Garcia (D-14- Bernalillo) will preside at the meeting.
