Land Grant Committee Meeting Thursday and Friday, September 18-19
Santa Fe, NM – The Land Grant Committee will meet on Thursday and Friday, September 18-19, 2014 at the San Joaquin del Rio de Chama Land Grant located off US Highway 84, 12 miles north of Ghost Ranch in Capulin.
On Thursday, committee members will discuss the San Joaquin del Rio de Chama Land Grant-Merced’s current challenges and future prospects, the Tierra Amarilla Land Grant-Merced, the potential for civil remedies in embezzlement cases involving land grants, and potential benefits of providing subgrants a pathway to full land grant-merced status. They will also receive a status report from the United States Forest Service (USFS) on access to Cañon de Chama Cementerio, Nuestra Señora Land Grant-Merced boundary issues, and USFS liaison issues and challenges statewide. On Friday, members will tour the San Joaquin del Rio de Chama Land Grant.
Committee Chair Senator Jacob R. Candelaria (D-26-Bernalillo) and Vice Chair Representative Miguel P. Garcia (D-14- Bernalillo) will preside at the meeting.
