Legislative Education Study Committee Meeting June 16-18

Santa Fe, NM – The Legislative Education Study Committee will be meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014 at the New Mexico School for the Deaf Recreational Activity Center on 1060 Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe. Committee members will also be meeting Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17-18 at 9:00 a.m. in room 322 of the State Capitol in Santa Fe.

The committee will receive an overview of educational programs and outcomes from representatives from the New Mexico School for the Deaf, the Albuquerque Sign Language Academy (ASLA), and the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. They will also go over capital outlay projects for those schools, as well as review teacher and principal evaluation systems. Additional agenda items, among others, include discussions surrounding Common Core Standards, broadband infrastructure and updates from the University of New Mexico on credit requirements.

Chair Senator John Sapien (D-9-Bernalillo & Sandoval)will be presiding at the meeting.
