Legislative Education Study Committee Meeting Monday and Tuesday, November 17-20

Santa Fe, NM – The Legislative Education Study Committee will meet on Monday and Tuesday, November 17-20, 2014, in Room 322 of the State Capitol in Santa Fe.

On Monday, committee members will discuss a case study of New Mexico elementary schools, a Hispanic Education Act update, the Higher Education Connection to Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, and Common Core State Standards.

On Tuesday, they will discuss New Mexico Early Childcare and Early Education Task Force recommendations, the New Mexico Business Roundtable, 2015 legislative education priorities, a Legislative Lottery Scholarship update, a higher education funding formula update, the Adult Education Program funding formula, and the Northern New Mexico College report on fiscal impact of dual credits.

On Wednesday, committee members will discuss performance and improvement trends in New Mexico elementary schools, best practices for English language learners and English as Second Language, New Mexico’s Collegial Learning Collaborative, and the school leadership program initiative: NMLEAD.

Thursday’s agenda includes the LESC Charter Schools Subcommittee recommendation report, and presentations of legislation for possible endorsement.

Committee Chair Senator John Sapien (D-9- Bernalillo & Sandoval) and Vice-Chair Representative Mimi Stewart (D-21-Bernalillo) will preside at the meeting.
