Legislative Education Study Committee Meeting Monday through Wednesday, September 22-24

Santa Fe, NM – The Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22-24, 2014 at the New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) Bob Moran Multipurpose Room, located at 1 Thunderbird Circle in Hobbs.

Among several agenda items on Monday, committee members will discuss the NMJC educational initiatives, the weekend hunger initiative backpack program, and the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). Tuesday’s agenda includes discussions about Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department; the Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) Navajo Refinery; the New Mexico Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Artesia Project; and investing in early education. On Wednesday committee members will take a tour of the Urenco Plant.

Committee Chair Senator John Sapien (D-9- Bernalillo & Sandoval) and Vice-Chair Representative Mimi Stewart (D-21-Bernalillo) will preside at the meeting.
