NM Senate Announces 30 Expedited Bills, aka the “Rocket Docket”

Santa Fe, NM – Today the New Mexico State Senate completed introduction of legislation included in this year’s “Rocket Docket,” a set of bills introduced in recent years that, while receiving wide bipartisan support in the Legislature, were nevertheless vetoed by then-Governor Susana Martinez.

The bills will now be heard in Committee and go through the regular process before being brought back to the floor for voting and moving over to the House of Representatives. The House has its own set of expedited bills that will go through the same process. The intent is to have a complete set of bills ready for Governor Lujan Grisham’s signature sometime during the third week of this Legislative session.

“It’s great to see these bills now on the fast-track to the Governor’s office,” says Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth. “These are 30 solid, bipartisan measures that had overwhelming support in the Legislature only to die by the pen of our previous governor, often with little or no explanation. Once both chambers have had the opportunity to review and vote on the complete “Rocket Docket,” I’m confident we will have several dozen bills on the governor’s desk in unprecedented time.”

A complete list of the Senate Bills, along with their respective sponsors and committee referrals is attached. The list also includes the original bill numbers, year of introduction, and vote count received in both chambers.
