Attorney General Hector Balderas is not wasting time trying to get to the bottom of the behavioral health mess. Elected in November, sworn into office in January, the new attorney general already has taken an important first step — Balderas has released the June 2013 audit of behavioral health providers in the state.

The now-public audit offers the opportunity for every accused health care provider or any interested citizen to investigate what might have gone wrong with delivery of behavioral health care services in the state. At 400 pages, it’s a heavy read (although some portions still remain redacted) and it doesn’t begin to answer the charges raised by Gov. Susana Martinez’s administration.
