On Wednesday Feb 5, the Senate Judiciary Committee will be hearing Senate Bill 5, the Extreme Risk Firearm Protection Order Act. A Committee Substitution for the original bill will be presented. In order to accommodate public interest in this legislation, the following rules and procedures will be in effect:
The public comment portion of the hearing in Senate Judiciary will be limited to a specific and equal period of time for proponents and opponents. Advocates wishing to speak shall sign up in the Office of Senate Judiciary Committee, Room 319 with the form available. The sign up opportunity will be open through 11:30 am on February 5.
A randomized number of those advocates who sign up to speak will be recognized by the Chair for public comment. Advocates are encouraged to organize themselves and designate their representative and consolidate time for their comments.
Overflow seating for the hearing on Senate Bill 5 will be in the Senate Gallery to the point of capacity, and video from the committee room will be available in the Senate Gallery.
No firearms will be permitted in either the Senate Judiciary Committee room or Senate Gallery. Security measures will be taken to enforce this prohibition.
