It’s time to focus on OptumHealth New Mexico, the company that has administered more than a billion dollars in behavioral health services over the course of several years in New Mexico.

While OptumHealth’s CEO, Elizabeth Martin, told the Legislative Finance Committee that OptumHealth had only a “very, very small role” in the destruction of New Mexico’s behavioral health system, emails to administration officials show otherwise. In the fall of 2012, Martin herself suggested replacing New Mexico providers as a way for the administration to attain national recognition for pursuing Medicaid fraud. Documents show a trail from OptumHealth to the Arizona providers chosen to replace New Mexico agencies.
