Senator George Munoz Plans December 8 Meeting to Address Alcoholism in Gallup

Santa Fe, NM – Senator George Munoz (D-4-Cibola, McKinley & San Juan), together with the New Mexico Department Indian Affairs, the New Mexico Department of Health and McKinley County, will be hosting a public meeting on December 8, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Church, located at  2045 Westview St. in Gallup. The meeting will focus on finding solutions to Gallup’s well-documented alcohol abuse issues.

In November, Sen. Munoz released a statement saying, “The high crime rates, along with the alcohol-related deaths in the area (Gallup), are of real concern to me…and those affected…are reaching for help, and in Gallup, it does not really exist right now. I believe that the alcohol abuse issue is directly related to the crime rates…and we need to get down to the root of the problem and come up with effective solutions collectively.”

Sen. Munoz said he’s excited to get the public involved in the dialogue and is confident that this will be the start of taking significant steps in the right direction.

“I hope the public takes advantage of this opportunity to speak about their concerns and that we can all work together to take care of this community,” he added.
