Water and Natural Resources Committee Meeting Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7

Santa Fe, NM – The Water and Natural Resources Committee will meet on Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7, 2014 at the New Mexico Highlands University Student Union Building, located at 800 National Avenue in Las Vegas.

Among several agenda items, on Monday, committee members will meet with the New Mexico Acequia Commission and Associations, and will discuss water demand, availability, costs and environmental impacts related to the Arizona Water Settlements Act and proposed Gila River diversion projects. They will also discuss Indian water rights settlements and issues, long-term funding for forest and watershed restoration, proposed changes to the emergency notification requirements for mining, and the Santa Cruz irrigation district. On Tuesday they will discuss the Healthy Food in Schools Program, the temporary water use permitting process, and the regional water association proposal and association issues.

Committee Chair Representative George Dodge, Jr. (D-63-Curry, DeBaca, Guadalupe, Roosevelt & San Miguel) and Vice Chair Senator Phil A. Griego (D-39-Bernalillo, Lincoln, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Torrance & Valencia) will preside at the meeting.
