Event to Assist Students Applying for Federal Aid on May 20
Senator Jacob Candelaria Co-Sponsors

Santa Fe, NM – Senator Jacob Candelaria (D-26-Bernalillo) will join community organizations in sponsoring a Financial Aid Assistance event for high school students on May 20 at West Mesa High School Library (6701 Fortuna Rd NW, ABQ 87121) from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. The event will help students from around New Mexico fill out and file their 2014-2015 Financial Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Financial aid advisors from the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College will also be available to answer any questions from students about their financial aid packages. Students can also enter for a chance to win a scholarship and other prizes.

In addition, New Mexico high school students may also enroll in the state dual-credit program at the event.

“Since students must complete a FAFSA in order to determine whether they are eligible to receive federal dollars, events like this one are essential to help students who are entering college and who don’t understand the process,” said Sen. Candelaria. “We need to assure that New Mexico students have every opportunity and advantage to be able to succeed in college. Any way in which we can help them is crucial. I hope students from across the state take advantage of this event.”

Students and parents must have their 2013 income taxes in hand at the event. For questions, please call 505-277-7000.
