PNM Recognizes Two Local Businesses for their Energy-Efficient Upgrades

(BELEN, N.M.) – Today PNM recognized local businesses that went above and beyond in saving energy in 2015 by participating in PNM business energy efficiency rebate programs. The recognition took place at a Belen Chamber of Commerce Mix n’ Mingle at the State Employees Credit Union. The top two Belen PNM Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

Family Dollar – large business with the highest energy savings.
Belen Public Schools – nonprofit/government entity honorable mention with the highest energy savings.
“Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do,” said Amy Miller, director, PNM Environment, Local Government and Community Affairs. “We’ve enjoyed working with Belen businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us.”

The top award in the large business category goes to Family Dollar for their energy savings project that included installation of energy-efficient interior lighting in their new construction project. The project will save 7,909 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, and earned Family Dollar a rebate of $593 from PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

In the nonprofit/government entity category, the honorable mention goes to the Belen Public Schools. They installed energy-efficient interior and exterior lighting and six efficient rooftop air conditioning units. Their project will save 44,585 kilowatt hours of electricity annually and received a rebate of $4,857 from PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Combined, they received rebates of $5,450 and saved 52,494 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 7 homes for a year.

Since 2007, PNM energy efficiency programs have provided more than $53 million in customer rebates and helped save almost 1.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity – enough to power approximately 274,000 homes for a year. These programs have kept an estimated 1.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the air and saved 685 million gallons of water.
