Senator Cisco McSorley to Depart Senate for Role in Lujan Grisham Administration
Santa Fe, NM
Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the appointment of Senator Cisco McSorley (D-Bernalillo) as Director of the Probation and Parole Division within the New Mexico Corrections Department.
Senator McSorley has been a member of the New Mexico Legislature since 1984, serving 12 years in the House of Representatives and 22 years in the Senate, under six different administrations. He currently sits on the Senate Conservation and Judiciary Committees, and serves as Co-Chair of the Tobacco Settlement Revenue Oversight Interim Committee.
“Senator McSorley has been a champion for civil rights, civil liberties, public education, criminal justice reform, and the environment both here in the Senate and during his tenure in the House, says Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth. “And while it is a sad day for the Senate to be losing one of our leading voices on such important issues, we are fortunate to have him serve in the Lujan Grisham administration in a role so well-suited to his passions and strengths. We look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners will now be tasked with naming Senator McSorley’s replacement.
