Senator Ivey-Soto Announces EDUCATION TOWN HALL: THE PUBLIC IS INVITED

Senator Ivey-Soto (D-15-Bernalillo), together, with the National Education Association, invites the public to an Education Town Hall, 6:00 p.m., Tuesday November 3, at the IBEW Local 611 Union Hall, 4921 Alexander Blvd. NE (near Costco).  We will be discussing current issues impacting public school and student success.

“As a former teacher, I understand that education is essential to improve the lives and economic opportunities of New Mexico’s children,” said Sen. Ivey-Soto. “I have been a champion of public education since I took office two years ago so our children can compete for the jobs of tomorrow.”

The Los Lunas and Belen local associations will also be at the event. These leaders in education are dedicated to improving the lives of New Mexico’s children. They are working with Senator Ivey-Soto on this town hall because they understand that they must partner with the community to have a successful public education system.

“This Education Town Hall is a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers and other educators and the community at large to discuss the critical issues impacting student success in our local public schools,” says NEA-New Mexico President Betty Patterson.  “New Mexico supports our local schools, yet teachers are under near constant attack from some quarters.  This is our opportunity to help Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto hear positive ideas for the road to greater success for New Mexico students.”

The November 3 Education Town Hall will focus on three broad areas: the over testing of our students and the current teacher evaluation system; the need to sufficiently fund our public schools; and how students benefit, too, when the legislature preserves association and labor rights.   Education Town Hall participants are welcome to submit their own questions, too.  Refreshments will be available.
