Senator Michael S. Sanchez Monitors Progress of Work at Former Los Lunas Training School Pool

Los Lunas, NM – The swimming pool at the former Los Lunas Training School has been temporarily closed to the public because of a national recall of water filters used in the pool.  That has prompted several calls to Senate Majority Leader Michael S. Sanchez (D-29-Valencia, Bernalillo) from constituents wanting to know why the pool was closed and when it will be reopened.

“I would like to thank the constituents who called my office about the sudden closure of the pool at the former Training School.  Pool officials have assured me that their number one concern is the public’s safety and they are working to correct the problem.  The pool will re-open as soon as possible. I will continue to monitor the progress of the work,” said Sen. Sanchez.

As a result of the recall, the Department of Health is in the process of obtaining price quotes for the purchase and installation of new filters. It is uncertain how long that process will take.

For many years, the pool has improved the lives of many community members whether they are expert swimmers or undergoing physical rehabilitation in the therapy pool.  Once the work is done, the pool will fully reopen and all services will again be available to the residents of Valencia County.
